Your engagement has been announced and there’s wedding planning ahead of you. Your excitement is in high gear and it’s your day! Make it truly special.
An elegant and lively evening is how most newlyweds hope their reception is remembered. With a team of quality professionals; from planner to photographer, baker to florist- you’ll enjoy the stress-free, fantastic event you always hoped for.
The most vital thing for the “team” is to treat your wedding as a one-of-a-kind. Once they understand what you’re visualizing and with your direction and trust in them, they are certain to deliver ideas you never dreamed of. The devil’s in the details so make sure you don’t overlook things that take your wedding day from standard to savvy!
Once you sit down and have a clear understanding of your budget and your expectations; the party details of your reception are in full swing.
Decorating your wedding reception site will clearly reflect your taste and theme for your special day. Start with a blank canvas and you will be able to translate any idea that you may want to use, into reality. Talk together, at length about the interests you and your fiancé have in common, or theme it to where you met or were engaged.
There are many excellent design companies in Windsor and area that can make your dream come true. Speaking with a professional and relating your ideas will guarantee a day like you have dreamed about.
Make sure that all the elements are coordinated, from your invitations to your chair covers. by theme or just coordinate your colours or season of your wedding, to make the room come together in a warm, inviting atmosphere.
In this day of signature style wedding, remember to include lighting for a special blend of ambiance. It changes the mood in areas of your venue that make a more intimate setting. Lights are garnering more attention than ever before because of the mood modifications that they can make.
The Wedding Guide loves a great looking party and if you have done something unique and that speaks to being noticed, please contact us with a picture and we will share it with all of our brides.

Making Dollars & Sense of a Wedding Budget
In a report I read recently, it revealed that brides and grooms are very optimistic about their upcoming 2010/11 weddings. While the economy starts to point up again, bridal couples refuse to compromise on their big day, saying its their once in a lifetime dream day and they will figure out how to make it happen- their way- their milestone!
At The Wedding Guide Windsor/Essex County, we realize that there isn’t a bottomless budget with huge amounts of money to be spent , but some items will prove to be immenently more important than others due to their staying power. We’re here to help you make your day occur your way.
Your Photographer- Your Archivist
You want to be able to look back at your wedding day and love the memory-making that your photographer captured. There is no way to go back and redo a wedding once its over, so ensure that you check your photographer’s references and make sure that their portfolio is a handsome one. Also, ask if the photographer you are meeting with will be the one shooting your day. It’s important to have a good rapport personality-wise with your shooter as you will be spending the entire day and night together.
Most photographers today do a combination of photo-journalistic style (candids) as well as some traditional shots. If your idea of pictures is spontaneous, then you won’t want to spend the day standing like statues, being posed. However, do remember to include family group shots for future viewing. It’s important to chronicle the generations that are at your wedding celebration for future posterity.
Your First Trip as a Couple!
Your honeymoon is an important piece of your planning because it is the separation between your single life and your future married days together. Find a place that you can both unwind and decompress after all the months of wedding planning. You want to do things you enjoy together and enjoy this delicious time away. Don’t compromise on your honeymoon- you’ll always remember it vividly and be able to recount together as a couple for your entire life.
And if you’re thinking of last minute travel plans- stop now and reconsider. Friends have done it, despite warnings and found themselves disappointed in sub-standard places that just weren’t suitable for a honeymoon.
Human Wedding Décor!
An artsy, actor friend of mine was recently hired to be a duo in a bride and groom “statue-like” feature at the reception. They held their poses, mannequin-like as decorative pieces in the hall, as well as mingling with the guests. It was a fun addition to the day and unique and fun!
Should you be interested in this type of entertainment- contact us and we can recommend them to you directly. I’m watching this as another new emerging trend as brides and grooms continue to personalize your days and put their signature style on everything about their wedding day.
Until next time

PRESS RELEASE
Windsor, Ontario
For immediate release
February 14, 2010
Planning that once-in-a-lifetime celebration in this new decade is all about attention to detail, with couples showing their individuality and signature-style. Through the years, while some things about weddings change, others remain exactly the same. While the past is fondly remembered, this year, the present is important too! Save the date cards, self-written vows, mismatched bridesmaid dresses and eco-friendly touches are all new additions to this upcoming wedding season.
Veils, cakes, the first dance, champagne, lace, tulle, something old, new, borrowed, blue, and wedding photographs have all remained constant, in an ever-evolving wedding day. New social media such as Facebook and Twitter and the online personalized bridal widgets and web casting of the ceremony in real time, highlight all the couple’s news and the wedding day festivities. But this season’s focus is on retro chic and the Hollywood days of glamour.
The traditional black tuxedo is back for the gents and for the bride, it’s all about accessories; gloves and pearls. The bird cage veil and the emergence of bridal hats and the bouffant or French twist hair styles, make for an elegant look. The inspiration comes from the sophistication of the 50’s and 60’s. Strapless wedding gowns are as dominant as they have been in the past, and, they will quite likely continue to be in the future, but expect to see sashes of black and high waistlines. Gold is back for engagement and wedding bands after an absence of a few years, where silver was prominent as the metal of choice.
The vintage glamour look, which emerged last season, continues this year, and is gaining strength. There’s a breath-taking ambience to today’s weddings. The “something new”, could be hair extensions, while “something blue” can be the sky over a Jamaican destination wedding. Honeymoons are all-inclusive and brides and grooms are gravitating to luxury resorts with their amazing meal packages and opportunities for many different adventures..
Invitations range from fun to fancy formal, and some even have illustrations of the bride and groom illustrated in pencil sketched artwork. Look for vibrant colours that match the wedding’s theme such as turquoise/raspberry combinations as well as the traditional and elegant colour scheme of black and white.
Brides and grooms are revamping their first dance with a routine that is a medley of songs, replacing the traditional first dance of the reception, which in 2010, is just called the “party”.
Weddings are elegant with a lot of character. For comfort you’ll find wedding venues with comfy couches and living room settings, set up for the ceremony and reception; adding increased comfort and cosiness for the guests. Sit down dinners are still in style, but look for cocktail receptions with a supper club feel- cocktails- think, martinis, Manhattans, old fashioned cocktails and big band sounds.
Wedding cakes continue to be tiered, but the trend is to more white cakes with butter cream or fondant icing, topped with an heirloom antique cake topper of a bride and groom. Colourful macaroons are replacing cupcakes. Dance floors are adorned with custom vinyl monograms of the bride and groom’s initials. And look for special lighting, which klamps up the décor of the reception site, adding warmth and atmosphere.
On this special day, couples want their signature style shining through. The possibilities are endless! From sheer whimsy to the outrageously breath-taking, today’s couples are style-makers and it shows! There has never been a better time to marry!

I’ve been reading about 2010 Wedding trends and the trend is pointing to a more unique, signature-style wedding . With the influence of year’s gone by, the style is moving toward home weddings, which aren’t necessarily less expensive, but certainly are more intimate and personal. A back yard is more easy-going for everyone. Your guests are more relaxed and it can be a great and moderately priced entertaining choice, or you can go all-out.

Perhaps decorating is the bride’s hot button and she goes all out to create their own space, unique to both her and her fiancé. She may then decide to cut back on favours completely. Everyone has their own style. We previewed covers for our current Wedding Guide over 6 months ago and go and agreed unanimously that the Hollywood look was going to continue to emerge as a strong trend.
The consensus was a very glam, opulent and vintage cover. We have since learned that our cover girl, Brooke Boyle is vying for The Miss Universe Canada Contest in Toronto this week. And, the best of the best is that she is also a local Windsor/Essex native and she is engaged! All the best tomorrow, Brooke. 2
Veils with a feather or a jewel-clip and netting is the favourite choice for brides and they cover only the face. This is going to continue to be the head-piece rage well into 2010. It makes a statement and is more fun to wear and look at than the long trains of your mother’s day.
Looking ahead to bridesmaids dresses, and we’ve all been there; there’s more freedom to having the bride pick her colour and letting the gals buy their own styles, and meld the look together as one. The only key is too make certain that the styles are all either formal or informal. The two looks together won’t do it!
There are more emerging trends that deserve to be watched. Wedding pies, for- rent commercial aircrafts for ceremonys, ball gowns that flow like Scarlet’s wardrobe in Gone With the Wind, and outdoor weddings on farms, vineyards, zoos, old train stations and local, white sandy beaches.
Special decorating touches like your mother’s roses in antique vases will grace the guests’ tables.
Bright colours are in – rich hues in gem colours such as amber, plum and navy are coming into vogue. Copper, buttercream and black are also on the horizon.
To everyone planning a wedding; there has been no time as exciting as right now for your wedding day. The sky’s the limit, the mood is fun and friendly, and you have every option in the world to say ” I do” your way.
