21st Century Brides Vow to be Different

The Wedding Guide Windsor|Essex County TrendsA wedding is a life event; a milestone and a full-out party whether formal or not, with a myriad of special touches that flavour the day with the individual touches of the couple’s personality. Making a memory is their top priority and when all is said and done, they want to look back on a beautiful celebration filled with a sense of emotion, sincerity and occasion.

Personalized signature style continues to be the trend, with new touches emerging this upcoming bridal season. The stuffy by-the-book rules of the past have all but vanished. Personal branding continues to be a focal point, with the theme of the wedding revolving around a stylized monogram or icon that the bride and groom may choose.

The vintage glamour look continues its hold from the last two seasons, with the return of romance clearly illustrated in flowing wedding gowns in pale pinks, yellows and this season hottest colour, honeysuckle.  The rage of the 1920s ushers in 3D appliqué, layered with lace, tulle and silk details on the dress. The princess style silhouette will be body slimming with a bold train, while sequins and beading will be showing up on everything from the dress to the floral arrangements and the wedding cake.

Flowers will be stylized with keepsakes in the bouquets and they will be green and natural with bright coloured flowers arranged lightly with a leaf wrap. Flower girls will carry bulb bouquets of one colour.

Chic statement- making headwear is in and no bride today would be without it. Sparkly tiaras are back in time for the Royal Wedding and vintage feathers, large flowers, headbands and elegant hair clips are other alternatives.

The black tuxedo has been revamped with flair and attitude. New styles and beautiful fabric has moved them into the 21st century. Bow ties are back and bold and fun is the message in their styling. Brides will wear pearls and Grooms will forgo sneakers for more tasteful wedding day footwear that complements his bride.

For comfort, wedding venues sport comfy couches- lounge weddings are hot and are one of the biggest trends this year! Living room settings add cosiness for the guests and allow people to move around and socialize with ease.

Long table are all the rage and feel reminiscent of family celebrations. The Sweetheart Table reserved for the couple is elegant and comfortable, layered with textured linens and replete with vintage centrepieces.

Food is local, healthy, traditional and original with farmer’s market menus. Lemonade and colourful teas add a “pretty and colourful” twist to the décor. The wedding cake serves as a centrepiece, a photo-op and is a main focal point. Brides are crazy for cakes decked out in jewellery and they are tall and elegant with butter cream icing and big, beautiful natural flowers instead of the large sugar ones.

Dessert bars continue to be a huge guest favourite, laden with brownies, macarons, ( an almond paste cookie, coloured to theme and filled with gelato or ice cream) jelly beans, pies, ice cream floats and cake pops. They add bold colour and sweetness to the post dinner fare.

The supper club feel ties into the lounge wedding and this season, no couple wants the best day of their lives to end. Couples are planning an after party that lasts well into the wee hours of the night. Guests will partake of drinks, entertainment, dancing and snacks, served up with cognac, coffee and cappuccino bars; lounge- like events with bold style so that their guests can party all night!

From sheer whimsy to breath-taking, couples want their uniqueness to shine through all the details. Outdoor weddings are popular décor offering nature as a backdrop; garden weddings, wooded park-like settings or vineyards are ways couples are making the day their own.   Sparklers and ice sculptures with beautiful intricate details are gracing their tables and doubling as decorations.

The special handmade elements of 2011 weddings are here to stay and are one of the biggest trends for this year. DIY is big and couples are daring to make their day distinctive and memorable.

Wherever the celebration, from cozy- home-style to country or urban chic, couples are infusing their day with distinctive touches and emotion while choreographing a celebration that is meaningful and unique to them.

The 2011 wedding is a wow from the vows to the departure of the last guest. It will be entertaining, emotional and joy-filled. It won’t be your mother’s wedding!

Take it Outdoors- Wedding Celebrations

If you are planning an outdoor event, the sky’s the limit —but it can also be limiting if nature decides to present you with a  wedding shower! However, don’t let the uncertainty of the weather dissuade you from holding your dream wedding in your favourite outdoor place.

Select a canopy or tent to protect your guests from bright sun or rain. Lights, fountains, or other decorations as well as gorgeous “lounge furniture”  can be easily  added to make your outdoor wedding site into something truly spectacular. Many weddings and receptions are held outdoors, but natural  scenery also provides nice atmosphere for a rehearsal dinner or gift opening party.

A canopy will add a festive touch to your celebration and provide a focal point as well. Besides providing a dramatic backdrop, it also gives you  practical weather protection. Your rental agency will be able to answer all your questions about cost, delivery,  and set-up. They will also help you  calculate the size you need, based on the number of guests and whether or not you plan seated or buffet dining and dancing.

A wooden dance floor can be added; or you might choose artificial turf. Either will provide a clean, dry surface and protect the  lawn underneath. A clear roll-down rain shield or a solid screen will block the sun and keep your event more private. Today’s white “wedding tents” have lovely arched windows with clear acrylic panes.  Furnish your outdoor room with chairs and  tables from your rental agency. They can also provide linens, a portable bar, punch bowl, chocolate fountains, a buffet service, and china , crystal and flatware. Decorate with twinkle lights or lanterns, balloons, flowers, streamers or even caged birds. Place potted plants around tent stakes so guests won’t trip on them.

Your style as a couple will be the headliner at an outdoor wedding. Have a beautiful day!

Your Wedding Florals, The Wedding Guide Windsor|Essex County

Underscore the drama of your wedding with the right flowers. Find a professional who will take time to learn about you and the ambience you want to create. An artistic florist will suggest lovely and unusual designs for your wedding bouquet and floral arrangements.

Six months before the wedding is not too early to select your florist, especially if you’re planning an elaborate wedding. When you talk with your florist, be guided by the style and mood of your wedding, the season or  environment, your budget and—more to the point—what you like.

Go prepared. Selecting your gown, the bridesmaids’ dresses and the overall colour theme is a must before visiting your florist. Take fabric swatches, descriptions or pictures of your selected wedding apparel. Have  examples of colours and styles of the mothers’ gowns and of the attire the groom and his attendants will be  wearing. With this information your florist can suggest floral combinations and artistic treatments.

Supply the florist with the names, addresses and times for delivery of your bouquet, boutonnieres, corsages and floral arrangements. Ask for an itemized bill in advance.

Traditionally, the bridal bouquet is composed of all white flowers, but the addition of colourful blossoms is certainly appropriate. The groom’s boutonniere, worn on his left lapel, is usually a spray of the same type of blossoms used in your bouquet. Note that the ushers and groomsmen wear boutonnieres different from the groom’s. Your attendants’ flowers will also be different from your bridal bouquet. Corsages for the mothers and boutonnieres for the fathers should be coordinated in colour and style.

You may wish to select certain flowers for personal reasons, others because they have traditional meanings.

Hyacinth, for example, signifies constancy. In medieval Germany, brides wore rosemary to guard against pregnancy! Consider including unusual greenery plants. Asparagus fern and multi-coloured coleus are attractive in summer bouquets. Holly and pine sprays are popular for December nuptials. Stalks of golden- brown wheat are a sentimental touch for harvest brides. Be guided by the advice of your florist.

If budget is a consideration, flowers and greenery in season are more abundant and generally less expensive. Silk flowers are an equally beautiful alternative to fresh flowers. Manufacturers now produce nearly any type of blossom or plant in fibre form; the bonus is that these exquisite imitators bloom forever.

You’ll need a number of other floral pieces for your wedding, including displays for the altar, centrepieces for reception tables, sprays for candelabra, corsages for those who assist with various reception duties and floral “tokens” for special guests. Ask your florist for guidance. Their artistry, knowledge of wedding protocol and ability to listen to your needs will ensure that you will get a good value for your money and have the perfect floral accents to enhance your wedding day.

Language of Flowers: Expressions of Friendship & Love

A gift of flowers has always been a favoured expression of friendship and love. Here is a sampling of the special messages you can send by selecting flowers with meanings all their own.

On your wedding eve, give your fiancé a mixture of red and white roses (happy love and unity), or a bouquet of Ranunculus (you are radiant with charm).

When meeting your future in-laws for the first time, bring a bouquet of heather (admiration), daffodils (regard, not love) or bouquets of morning glories (affection).

At your bridal shower, choose centrepieces of acacia (friendship) and yellow lily (gaiety).

Tell the groom’s friends to decorate him with ivy (fidelity) or give him a sprig to wear at the bachelor party.

Thank your bridesmaids for their support with small bouquets of sultan (felicity, happiness), and give them as tokens at your bridesmaid’s luncheon.

For the wedding, decorate the church, chapel garden or ceremony site with ivy (fidelity, marriage), and lilies (purity
of heart). Your bouquet will express unspoken emotions when you include: blue violet (faithfulness) orchids (beauty and love), myrtle (joy) or iris (promise in love).

Flowers always create a festive and romantic mood,  now they can express special sentiments as well.
