Brandon Scott Introduces “First Look Photography”

Breaking Down Photography Superstitions, Brandon Scott Photography, Windsor, Ontario, Introduces “First Look!”

Superstition has stated forever, that it is bad luck when the bride and groom see one another before the ceremony.  With Emily Post Manners now saying it’s okay to toss out the stuffy stuff, many couples are catching on to this new emerging trend and embracing it with excitement. We thank Brandon Scott, Brandon Scott Photography for bringing this emerging new trend, “First Look” to our attention.

“First Look” is worthy of a discussion because of the additional pleasure it provides the couple with, both on the wedding day, as well as into the future. It is an emerging trend that captures love, sentiment and raw emotion for everyone in the wedding party. It’s a private moment for those special people involved in the celebrations of the day.

From a photography point of view, there are a lot of benefits to a couple seeing each other prior to the ceremony. It is definitely a remedy to calming pre-wedding jitters and it allows for a much smoother timeline for family pictures, the cocktail hour and portraits of the bride and groom alone. By capturing the “first look” and formal photos before the ceremony, you, your family and bridal party are fresh and laced with the excitement and anticipation of the day. After the ceremony, they can mingle and it allows the bride and groom to enjoy more time with guests at the reception. While incorporating a “first look” into a wedding timeline is great for some couples, it might not be the thing for you. I suggest doing what feels right for you, and what will make you the happiest and most stress-free.

You can get some very touching photographs from your photographer, as you see each other for the very first time before the ceremony.  Some brides just want to have that first private moment to say I love you, and hear from their groom how beautiful she looks. This is a special time, privately sharing another “first” together.

For some brides and grooms who would like their photographs taken before the ceremony but want mystique of the wedding setting, they can combine the two.

Some brides and grooms meet with loved ones at the actual site of the ceremony prior to the wedding. In that instance, only close family members sat in the pews while the couple stood in the aisle. It adds an intimate moment for them and their families.

For couples who would like their photographs  shot before the ceremony but want the aura and mystique of the wedding setting, they can do both. Couples have been photographed with their loved ones at the ceremony site, before the weddings.  Only close family members sat in the pews while the couple stood in the aisle. It’s a special experience for the couple, as well as for their loved ones looking on.

If photography and all the moments of your wedding day are of vital importance to you and your groom, then breaking down superstition will allow you to capture your togetherness from early in the day to the your departure from your reception.

21st Century Brides Vow to be Different

The Wedding Guide Windsor|Essex County

A wedding is a life event; a milestone and a full-out party whether formal or not, with a myriad of special touches that flavour the day with the individual touches of the couple’s personality. Making a memory is their top priority and when all is said and done, they want to look back on a beautiful celebration filled with a sense of emotion, sincerity and occasion.

The vintage glamour look continues its hold from the last two seasons, with the return of romance clearly illustrated in flowing wedding gowns in pale pinks, yellows and this season hottest colour, honeysuckle.  The rage of the 1920s ushers in 3D appliqué, layered with lace, tulle and silk details on the dress. The princess style silhouette will be body slimming with a bold train, while sequins and beading will be showing up on everything from the dress to the floral arrangements and the wedding cake.

Flowers will be stylized with keepsakes in the bouquets and they will be green and natural with bright coloured flowers arranged lightly with a leaf wrap. Flower girls will carry bulb bouquets of one colour.

Chic statement- making headwear is in and no bride today would be without it. Sparkly tiaras are back in time for the Royal Wedding and vintage feathers, large flowers, headbands and elegant hair clips are other alternatives.

The black tuxedo has been revamped with flair and attitude. New styles and beautiful fabric has moved them into the 21st century. Bow ties are back and bold and fun is the message in their styling. Brides will wear pearls and Grooms will forgo sneakers for more tasteful wedding day footwear that complements his bride.

For comfort, wedding venues sport comfy couches- lounge weddings are hot and are one of the biggest trends this year! Living room settings add cosiness for the guests and allow people to move around and socialize with ease.

Long table are all the rage and feel reminiscent of family celebrations. The Sweetheart Table reserved for the couple is elegant and comfortable, layered with textured linens and replete with vintage centrepieces.

Food is local, healthy, traditional and original with farmer’s market menus. Lemonade and colourful teas add a “pretty and colourful” twist to the décor. The wedding cake serves as a centrepiece, a photo-op and is a main focal point. Brides are crazy for cakes decked out in jewellery and they are tall and elegant with butter cream icing and big, beautiful natural flowers instead of the large sugar ones.

Dessert bars continue to be a huge guest favourite, laden with brownies, macarons, ( an almond paste cookie, coloured to theme and filled with gelato or ice cream) jelly beans, pies, ice cream floats and cake pops. They add bold colour and sweetness to the post dinner fare.

The supper club feel ties into the lounge wedding and this season, no couple wants the best day of their lives to end. Couples are planning an after party that lasts well into the wee hours of the night. Guests will partake of drinks, entertainment, dancing and snacks, served up with cognac, coffee and cappuccino bars; lounge- like events with bold style so that their guests can party all night!

From sheer whimsy to breath-taking, couples want their uniqueness to shine through all the details. Outdoor weddings are popular décor offering nature as a backdrop; garden weddings, wooded park-like settings or vineyards are ways couples are making the day their own.   Sparklers and ice sculptures with beautiful intricate details are gracing their tables and doubling as decorations.

The special handmade elements of 2011 weddings are here to stay and are one of the biggest trends for this year. DIY is big and couples are daring to make their day distinctive and memorable.

Wherever the celebration, from cozy- home-style to country or urban chic, couples are infusing their day with distinctive touches and emotion while choreographing a celebration that is meaningful and unique to them.

The 2011 wedding is a wow from the vows to the departure of the last guest. It will be entertaining, emotional and joy-filled. It won’t be your sister’s or your  mother’s wedding!

Take it Outdoors- Wedding Celebrations

If you are planning an outdoor event, the sky’s the limit —but it can also be limiting if nature decides to present you with a  wedding shower! However, don’t let the uncertainty of the weather dissuade you from holding your dream wedding in your favourite outdoor place.

Select a canopy or tent to protect your guests from bright sun or rain. Lights, fountains, or other decorations as well as gorgeous “lounge furniture”  can be easily  added to make your outdoor wedding site into something truly spectacular. Many weddings and receptions are held outdoors, but natural  scenery also provides nice atmosphere for a rehearsal dinner or gift opening party.

A canopy will add a festive touch to your celebration and provide a focal point as well. Besides providing a dramatic backdrop, it also gives you  practical weather protection. Your rental agency will be able to answer all your questions about cost, delivery,  and set-up. They will also help you  calculate the size you need, based on the number of guests and whether or not you plan seated or buffet dining and dancing.

A wooden dance floor can be added; or you might choose artificial turf. Either will provide a clean, dry surface and protect the  lawn underneath. A clear roll-down rain shield or a solid screen will block the sun and keep your event more private. Today’s white “wedding tents” have lovely arched windows with clear acrylic panes.  Furnish your outdoor room with chairs and  tables from your rental agency. They can also provide linens, a portable bar, punch bowl, chocolate fountains, a buffet service, and china , crystal and flatware. Decorate with twinkle lights or lanterns, balloons, flowers, streamers or even caged birds. Place potted plants around tent stakes so guests won’t trip on them.

Your style as a couple will be the headliner at an outdoor wedding. Have a beautiful day!

Lounge Weddings-2011-in the comfort zone

I have been following an emerging, exciting trend for the past two years and it continues to gain momentum. In 2009, some brides debated whether to abandon the traditional head table for a cozy, table for two for herself and her spouse. The wedding party , they declared would be seated around them in restaurant- style seating. Although this is not the norm , it has been a change that has been spotted and noted.

I am coining a new term  for this new decade. Weddings can be traditional in every respect until you break out in celebration at the reception. “The Lounge Wedding” is very much alive and growing in popularity.  Receptions today can be budget conscious,  yet Still be elegant, with colour coordinated themes, stunning floral designs and lots of sparkle and bling.  Chair covers add zip to the setting, and textured table coverings are laden with gorgeous beaded charger plates. Lighting has taken its rightful place too with the right mix of high and low “beams” in the appropriate places and chandelier fixtures, stategically place, add to the atmosphere.

The newest addition to receptions that has caught our attention is the clubby and comfy modern, modular leather couches and square cubes, in black and white, that can be configured whatever way you wish and placed invitingly throughout the venue. Plush, rhinestone detailed pillows,( we saw amethyst and silver tones) adorn the furniture and  add further to a luxe setting. They provide a relaxing alternative to those banquet chairs that tend to grow more and more uncomfortable, after sitting through dinner and speeches.  They urge guests to “kick back” and enjoy quiet and private conversations after dinner has ended and the entertainment has begun. This bodes especially well for those guests who have not seen one another for some time or family members who are simply catching up on one another’s news.  It’s an intimate setting.

Photographers also love this lounge concept because they are able to capture the wedding reception in a new light with candid shots that are wonderful for the couple to have and look back on at a later date.  Seeing their guests so relaxed, comfortable and enjoying themselves in a living- room like-setting on their special day, provides great photo memories for the couple well into the future.

We walked through many bridal shows this month, but we were stopped in our tracks in our own hometown of Windsor, Ontario, at both the Wedding Odyssey and Wedding Extravaganza shows.

The first, great new find was a stunning, Bride and Groom booth, which was  white buttoned leather, high back and slightly curved.  A round table, beautifully appointed, pulled up to it for dining.  It was very intimate and very appropriate for a first meal together as a couple.  What made it especially appealing was that it could be used a stand alone or installed right  in the centre of a head table with the wedding party seated traditionally around the couple.  We also saw tall, white leather Bride and Groom Chairs which are quite elegant and reminiscent of thrones that were once reserved only  for royalty . These rental items add a new dimension to a wedding!

This emerging trend is linked directly to the clubs of today that are catering to this season of marrying couples. They are exclusive, comfortable,  and reminiscent of  the supper clubs of a bygone era, when tuxedos, cognac and cigars  were all the rage. . Today’s couples have spent their time courting on dates in these environments of today, and it’s now spilling over into their wedding planning.

Bride and Groom BoothIt’s a cool idea that is coming into its own for some weddings and I look forward to seeing it grow. There’s nothing like a wedding where the  comfort index is high and you indeed feel like an honoured guest. It’s all part of what makes the experience of attending a wedding such a good time. Every couple displays their personalities in different formats and the elements they are using today are not from their mother’s wedding!
