Do You Know About Bras & Their Care?

The Delicate Touch Lingerie & Sleepwear

I dropped into The Delicate Touch Lingerie & Sleepwear last week, and had an invigorating conversation with Owner, Cathy Reynolds, about women, brides and undergarments. We talked about styles, colours and comfort, too. And yes, she now has a wonderful line of fabulous swim wear that area brides are discovering. The best part is that the swimsuit has to fit properly before Cathy or her proficient staff  lets it leave the shop! It’s all about both the look and the proper fit!

Did you know she sells a red bra that isn’t visible under a white top? You have to see it to believe it and with Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s worth having a look at.

There are over 5000 bras in stock, along with other beautiful lingerie and lounge wear, and that lead to a lengthy discussion about how to look after and care for your bras. This is a topic that most women have not be taught about and everyone should be aware of. It’s also the prime benefit of working with a small independent shop owner, who cares about her product line.

Did You Know?

You cannot trust labels alone. No two bras ever fit the same.

You should be “Fit” each time you purchase a new bra.

Bras will only stretch, they never shrink.

You should own 3 proper fitting bras, and rotate the wear of each to allow the unworn bras to “rest”. Lycra (elastic) needs 24 hours to return to its original size, or it will continue to stretch.

A stretched bra is a ruined bra. It will ride up the back and fall off the shoulders. Bras must be worn snug and low across the back to achieve support and shaping.

The more sections the cup of the bra has, the more support you will get; a smooth seamless cup will minimize and be more appropriate under T-shirts.

Always hook a new bra on its loosest set of hooks; this way, as the bra stretches, you can tighten up the band as needed. You will need to tighten the back before you adjust the shoulder straps.

Use cold water ONLY, DO NOT use heat from any source, no warm water, and                                                                       especially no dryer.

                                                               Hang to dry is best.

To wash in a machine is OK ensuring the items are in a mesh wash bag and the                                                                        water is COLD. Again, hang to dry.

When you treat your delicates well, not only will they  last a long time;  and you will derive a lot of comfort from them, but also a lot of “wearing” power. It pays to spend a little more on quality items like a bra, which you wear every day.
