The world was bustling this week with many people we know speaking the words, “we better hurry up,” because the holidays are just around the corner. Baking, shopping and creating are the norm at this time of the year, as everyone prepares in their own special way for Christmas and the holiday season. There’s many parties to attend and much to look after before the celebrations begin.
It also feels a lot like winter although officially that doesn’t occur until the 21st of the month. The snowfall of the last couple days has wrapped our world in the anticipation of the joys of the season.
Historically, the beginning of December is a quiet time in the world of weddings. With the arrival of the holiday season many engagements will be announced as wedding proposals are happily accepted.
This week we wrote about Your Wedding Rings , Bridal Salons, Weddings & Gowns and Factors to Consider When Booking Your Wedding Reception Venue
These three items are exciting for a newly engaged couple and they simultaneously think about all three of them at the beginning of their wedding planning.
Our advice to everyone who finds themselves engaged during this holiday season is to relax. Take a breath and allow yourselves a little time to enjoy the excitement before you commence on your wedding planning.

I attended the Grand Opening of Grill 55 last week and it was evident that a lot of love, care and planning went into this new WOW facility. The restaurant was replete with beautifully presented food stations and a full house of guests, all dazzled by the impeccable service.
From the moment you enter this newly-opened restaurant at the Holiday Inn & Suites on Huron Church Road, you feel the elegance and ambiance in this urban atmosphere. It’s sleek and spacious with a contemporary lounge club feel. The booths are roomy and intimate; perfect for quiet talks or family occasions. A large and stunning bar graces the room.
Sleek and modern, this spacious restaurant is the perfect place for a light meal or a celebratory dinner. The food is exquisite and well presented, but it’s the feel of the space that is also so very unique.
Outstanding food, presented with flair is the key to their future success. And, this team serves it up in an exemplary manner. Signature dishes and a signature drink, The Grill 55 Shooter is on a menu with international choices, and, is presented with great service and attention to detail.
The new private dining room is a gem of a space that can hold any party from an engagement, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, wedding or corporate meeting.

Beautifully appointed with a gas fireplace and internet service, the room can hold up to 50 and is contemporary and filled with warmth. It is appealing to the senses, is soothing and inviting, and looks stunning set-up in party mode.
This is the newest party room in the area and has all the right ingredients to be a popular and busy spot for years to come. The 250 person ballroom is under total renovation and will open in time for December holiday parties.
The culinary team perfects the little details that make up any big day and will take your vision, whatever size your occasion and make it come to life. Dedicated to superior service and outstanding food, this is the place in Windsor|Essex to hold your next celebration.
Executive Chef Steve Meehan who is now the Director of Food and Beverages services has created a balanced and tasty menu that appeals to even the most discerning diner.

You found your sparkling engagement ring in your holiday stocking or had a formal proposal during the holidays. Congratulations! You are officially engaged!
You have a wedding to plan and you and your significant other are so excited to set the date and start the planning process.
It’s important to take some time to enjoy this time of your life and enjoy and savour the moment. Take a deep breath and enjoy being engaged. It’s a time to discuss your expectations and to set your budget. Once this is done, you’ll have a good working knowledge of what you agree upon to make your wedding day memorable.
- Bridal shows are a great way to see some of the wedding professionals are in this area. You can browse their booths, see their wares and discuss their philosophies regarding how they approach weddings. It’s important to know that even if their price is within your budget- you still have to feel a connection to this company, as you will be working closely with them.
Once you start making your vendor decisions, it is important to ask for references or the opportunity to see their work, perhaps at an upcoming wedding. As you pick your services, ensure you have contracts in writing itemizing exactly what you are contracting for. Paperwork is important as there can never be any misunderstandings about what you have purchased. Also, keep a record of your deposits and get receipts.
I walked the Wedding Odyssey Show yesterday at the Ciociaro Club and it was an organized, well- run show with a gamut of vendors who are essential to a wedding day.
I came away with some new emerging trends that I have not read about anywhere else in North America, which I will be writing soon. Windsor/Essex County is filled with great professionals and their out-of-the -box thinking is passionate, energetic, yet practical. You have to seek them out; they develop their businesses based on their knowledge of not only what is current, but what is coming next! Their fingers are on the wedding pulse.
In this age of signature-style personalized weddings, there is a lot of flair and great style right here at home. There is little need to source your services from anywhere else. Make your appointments and establish your criteria before your appointments.
Weddings are always evolving, and we have again seen that today’s couples, who are a decade older than their counterparts twenty years ago, simply do not want their mother’s wedding.
