Your Wedding Cake
The trend is to personalize just about anything having to do with your wedding. Why not your cake as well? Creative displays of monograms and the names or images of the bride and groom are topping wedding cakes this year. From silver initials studded with crystals to subtle monograms in the frosting décor of the cake layers, it’s just another way to add a symbol of your new bond, to the elements of your wedding day celebration.
A cake topper with your initials joined together in or by a heart is a contemporary way to adorn your wedding cake with something much more personal than a stature of a bride and groom or a spray of flowers, although lavish cake flowers are making a big comeback. One-of-a-kind glass hand-blown cake toppers are also being sought after as an art piece. A local glassblower can create for you.
Today’s wedding cake bakers are creatively stretching the idea of the wedding cake. It used to be that choosing different flavours for each layer was somewhat cutting-edge, though it’s probably become more the norm when it comes to having a unique cake. In fact, some cakes might not be layered at all- there may be an assortment of four to five cakes, all varying in size, colour, and flavour; that are combined to make a wedding cake display. One of the hottest wedding cake designs today is one of ruffled icing, bling adornments and fresh flowers.

Today’s cakes incorporate all types of colour as well and cake designers are not limited to the whites and creams of your mother’s generation. We are also still seeing cupcakes remain popular. The macaron, a pastry with a colourful topping that can be hollowed and filled with gelato, ice cream or sorbet being seen on more dessert tables as it becomes increasingly popular.
Look perfect on your big day
If you believe your wedding gown is the most important thing you’ll wear on your wedding day, think again. Your groom and your guests will forever remember your radiant face, sparkling eyes and elegant hair.

The dress catches their attention only because it enhances your natural beauty. Nearly every woman wishes a team of professionals would arrive on the scene first thing every morning to make her look perfect and camera ready. But this luxury is actually a necessity for brides, according to wedding experts. Professional assistance is beauty insurance and you will also be camera ready with a make-up artist.
Don’t forget the moms
The biggest fashion decision for a wedding is, of course, the wedding gown itself. Next comes the attire for the attendants. Since the search for the perfect Mother-of-the-Bride dress may include a special order or custom tailoring, right after the bride and attendant attire is chosen, is the perfect time for the bride to talk to the mothers about their ideas for the dresses.

The bride should discuss her preferences of lengths, colours and styles with both/all mother. It’s important that the mothers’ gowns do not conflict with the colour of the attendants’-oftentimes because of this consideration, more neutral colours are worn by one or both mothers. A few traditions seem to hold when it comes to choosing Mothers’ attire: these dresses should never be longer than the bride’s or attendants’ gowns. The same goes for the style: they should not be more formal or lavishly decorated than the bride’s gown. Many bridal salons offer diverse selections of mothers’ gowns, check out our trusted salons online.
Shoe tips
Since you and your bridal party will be on your feet all day, and maybe much of the night, it’s important to pick wedding day shoes that are not only beautiful, but comfortable as well.

Take into consideration all the wear and tear that you shoes will have to endure and add tips to protect the bottoms and heels of your shoes. If your shoes, or more likely your bridesmaids’ are dyed to match, you may want to also have them scotch guarded in order to protect them from rain and snow. Most wedding fashion salons have shoes for sale and can give you expert advice on what shoes work best with different types of attendant and bridal attire. Shoes have become a hot accessory for brides and much time, thought and money will go into finding the perfect pair.

We heard a great tip that a bride should purchase two pairs of shoes; one for the ceremony and one pair for the reception. On the day of the wedding have someone take the 2nd pair to your venue in a plastic bag, and ask them to put them in the freezer for you. When you arrive at your reception, treat your swollen feet to a cool pair of equally beautiful shoes and dance the night away! Your feet will love you and you will be fresh and ready for your evening of festivities.
Begin your quest for the right shoes early in your planning process and try to break them in little by little before the big day. Today’s bridal shoes are absolutely stunning and for shoe-loving brides, you’ll have a blast finding your perfect pair!

Two special items of bridal attire are often purchased quickly and with less consideration for style and comfort than for price and for necessity; bridal millinery and bridal shoes. Both play an important part in your day, although in quite different ways.
Take special care in choosing your headpiece and veil- they frame your face. When we envision a “radiant” bride, we see her face surrounded by her headpiece and veil. Well designed bridal millinery forms the background for your romantic wedding portraits, so you want it to look perfect and fit comfortably.

A bridal milliner will design head-wear that not only enhances your face, and fits your hairstyle, but complements your gown in every way. Custom designed millinery is usually no more expensive than ready-made and does not have to be ordered months in advance. Choose pearls, sequins, beads, lace bows, or a smart bridal hat or fascinator. A milliner is like a hair stylist; they create the style especially for you.

Now, lets talk about shoes! They must be comfortable for standing, walking and dancing. Break them in at home on a carpeted floor.
Choose shoes that complement your gown and those of your attendants; there are so many designer styles now available.
Attendants should wear the same length heel heights if possible, but not too high; it’s difficult to walk naturally. Take your shoes to all fittings; hemlines are measured up from the floor when you are wearing your shoes.

It’s worth repeating; buy for comfort, even if it costs a little more! And indulge yourself, shoes are a passion of most women.

A Shoe Tip Worth Noting
Purchase two beautiful pairs of shoes for your wedding day; one for the ceremony and one for the reception. Take the second pair, place them in a plastic bag and arrange to have them transported to your reception site and have them put in the freezer for you.
Given that most weddings occur in our hot, humid Essex County summers, when you return from the ceremony, your feet will be swollen. The shoes in reserve will be chilled and perfect to reduce the swelling and get you ready for the evening. It gives a new meaning to putting on your dancing shoes. Be comfortable and be smart. It keeps that radiant smile on your face all day and all night long!!

Brides today want their wedding day to be as unique as they are. And this outside the box thinking is setting new trends for savvy brides in 2013. Designers are artfully combining bright colours with staple neutrals: much like an artist would paint a beautiful work of art.
Warm bamboo, honeysuckle pink, cedar green, deep teal, purple‐hued phlox, coffee liqueur, warm camel nougat and quarry are top colour shades.

Wedding dresses have a lot of lace; a trend we forecasted six months ago. There are ruffles, beading and coloured sashes that are sexy and white is not as popular as soft beige, light blues, pink and even soft‐toned greens being introduced into the finest bridal lines.
Styles for gowns are sleek with brides not seeking out the traditional ball gown. Vintage is still strong and there’s no chance of finding their dress duplicated. They make a statement and are stunning in their design.
The venue is still a hot location, with couples seeking old buildings that have been re-purposed such as old train stations, raw factory space and combinations of indoor and outdoor spaces. Local farms and vineyards provide a rustic charm and the outdoor photo opportunities provide endless opportunities. Wedding environments will be more laid back; bookings with nature settings are popular locations. Beaches, parks, homes and other outdoor settings are also being utilized.
Birdcage veils have been in style for many seasons now and the Royal Wedding provided the fascinator, an edgy, over the top headpiece. Headbands and feathers are modern options to a traditional veil. No bride will be bare‐headed in 2012 with everything from glittering tiaras to extra large flowers in contrasting tones.
Shoes, once dyed satin white can now be bold red, purple or blue, peeking out from under that dream dress. Add a feather clip for a touch of fun.
Other ideas include button or feather boutonnieres, multi‐mini cakes as centrepieces, catering carts, such as martini bars, crepe stations, sundae bars, pastry tables and lemonade stands are vying for the bride’s attention. Photo booths continue to be a popular feature for guests.
Social media is centre stage with computer stations being set‐up for guests to leave comments. Webcasting to guests who couldn’t attend the day is heartfelt and, as the day unfolds, hash tags for Twitter are in sync with today’s online culture.
Venues should expect to receive requests for longer cocktail hours, rental companies will see an increase for lounge furniture and guests can expect the unexpected. Ceremonies will have a steady increase in personalization, focusing on the couple’s interests, hobbies and passions as part of the wedding day celebrations. Vows are being written and choreographed by couples with assistance from an Officiant.
Themes such as vintage, diamonds/pearls, romance, garden style, retro 50‐70’s and eco‐friendly are huge. Cakes are bold this year and 2 layered cakes are back with tiers of different heights. Cupcakes are still huge, with innovative flavours and colours.
Grooms are more involved in the planning with their brides, and they are contributing their time and ideas into their day; it’s a new culture in the industry‐ one that until recently has been entirely female.
This wedding season will find couples saying, “I Do” in a world of different ways. Many will continue partying well into the night with an after party, which is becoming a popular trend. This party has no rules or wedding checklists and is entirely up to the couple.
Wedding Guide Preferred Vendors are dream‐makers; the go‐to service providers with big shoulders and creative thinking. They can make a wedding come to life with all of the above ideas. This area is cosmopolitan irrespective of its size and anything and everything is possible for the next season bride!
